November 2023 - January 2024

The LOOP Artists in Print show at Bankside Gallery earlier in the autumn was impressive and it was great to be part of this annual event. It's a chance to share ideas with a lively and innovative bunch of printmakers and there's a real focus on engaging with visitors to the gallery, which I like. It was a success for me personally, and particularly because I sold the first in the edition of my new screen print, State of the Nation. Its delivery involved a lightning handover on Andover station, which added to the excitement.

I'm also honoured to have had my work bought for the V&A Print collection this year. Two of my screenprints, Exchange Control and This was Tomorrow have been selected. Soon they will be catalogued and available to be viewed and maybe one day they’ll feature in an exhibition in one of the V&A Museums.

Now it's back to the studio, but there's a chance to see some of my miniature prints in the Bankside Mini Picture exhibition, which runs from 8th December until 1st February.

Two of my monoprints are getting an airing for first time at the Bankside Gallery in the RE Original Prints 2023, opening next week. Such a lovely gallery, and a great place to start if you are building up a print collection.

I've made some miniature photopolymer etchings based on images from some memorable trips on rail replacement buses in last couple of years. Detour 1 and Detour 3 were both selected for the 14th Biennial International Miniature Print Exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Printmaking, Norwalk, Connecticut. Exhibition runs from 4th June (opening event 2-4pm) until 20th August, and then travels on to Bendheim Gallery, Greenwich, CT at the end of the year.

Anyone heading for Portugal and some wine tasting? I was delighted to accept an invitation to take part in the 11th International Biennial of Douro 2023, and two of my screen prints will be part of an exhibition across several galleries in centres in the Douro Valley, from 10th August to 31st October.

At last, I've finished a new and very complex screen print on the "state of the nation" theme. Just mulling over some possible titles, and looking forward to showing it for the first time at the LOOP 23:Artists in Print exhibition later in the year, as well as seeing new work from other members of this talented and diverse group of experimental printmakers.

March/April 2023

This year I'm very pleased to have prints on show with the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, at the London Original Print Fair in Somerset House. Looking forward to a weekend of print expertise and enthusiasm, and even to a bit of razmataz (30 March – 2 April). I'm hoping my screen print Abode will get an airing. And on a smaller scale, I have some of my Fuel Cost monoprints in the gallery of Ottowa School of Art at the 9th International Miniature Print Exhibition (30 March – 14 May).

It was good to be part of the exhibition "Surface and Depth" organised by the Printmakers Council at the Mandell Gallery in Norwich, and to make it to the opening. It was beautifully hung, and I was pleased to show my grid of monoprints entitled Book of Days 2021 (I -XII).

Great to have my screenprint Disposals included in the International Original Print Exhibition at Bankside Gallery this month – seen here with Ian Brown of Volcanic Editions where I printed it.

I really enjoyed being part of a "Meet the Artist" session at Bankside Gallery, talking to visitors and meeting other recent ARE members. Look out for more of these sessions, usually on Sundays.

The LOOP Artists in Print exhibition at Bankside drew a big crowd and it was good to be part of such an interesting and imaginative show. Hoping we can come back next year!

Summer at Bankside Gallery

That "summer-feeling", or heat apocalypse? In response to the political climate, and some of its absurdities, I've been making monoprints over last few months. I'm pleased to be able to show some of them in Summer at Bankside Gallery exhibition (until 11 September) with other RE/RWS members, who I'm honoured to be showing alongside.

Another perk of being an ARE is I now have a selection of prints (mainly screenprints) in the browsers at Bankside Gallery.

LOOP Artists in Print

Lots of preparation has been going on for the LOOP 2022 exhibition which follows on at Bankside Gallery (13-18 September). It's such a well-organised and interesting group of printmakers- some very experienced, and all innovative and "pushing the boundaries". Really excited to be part of it and to show a selection of my many-layered screenprints.

June 2022

In June I submitted a portfolio of prints as the second stage of my application to become an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, which is based at The Bankside Gallery. I was successful! Feeling very honoured and especially as Disposals has been selected to be added to the Diploma RE archive at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Looking forward to becoming part of the RE community and to taking part in members' exhibitions.

Very pleased two photopolymer etchings from my Brighton Workhouse series have been selected for Derby Print Open exhibition 1-30 June. Congratulations to Green Door Printmaking for organising exhibition in real space again. They also organise the International Print Exchange.

April 2022

I'm excited to have new work selected for exhibiton at an international venue again, this time in Bulgaria at Miniprint Kazanlak. The three little prints (plates are 10 x 10cm) on show are so different from each other that I have called them monoprints, though eventually the series from each plate may make up a (very) varied edition. In parallel with pursuing themes in my screenprinting, I like working in this way so that I can respond quickly to current events. I ink up the photopolymer plate and paint onto it before taking a single print.

I have been painting directly on the plates as a response to the acceleration of forces causing destruction in the contemporary world.

More news from the studio – am developing ideas through monoprints on polymer etching plates, also at Volcanic Editions.

February 2022

Final few layers for Shopping with the Aliyevs (working title) to complete. I'm excited at being invited to exhibit with LOOP printmakers at the Bankside Gallery, 12-18 September 2022. Working on a new screenprint for the show and am looking forward to working on the exhibition together.

Delighted to have had my screenprint Exchange Control selected recently for the archive of the Printmakers Council housed at Scarborough Museum.
